6. Interviewer: Can you please tell me your past work experience and educational background?

Interviewee: Before coming to China I have had worked for numerous large companies including a fortune 500 company.

In Germany I was head of global sales for the Official German financial Equity and Bond Agency “Wertpapier Mitteilungen” in Frankfurt. I set up their international financial data licensing business for Europe and the United Sates.

Before that I worked at Bloomberg L.P. also in Frankfurt Germany in the analysis and training department (Citibank building)

Before that I founded Mega Trade International (M.T.I. Inc.) and was CEO of Mega Trade International in the USA. M.T.I. Inc. was engaged in European and American international trade and product development.

I started my career in New York, USA as an export agent at Lufthansa German Airlines.

Regarding my education I have a master’s degree in International Relations from Vienna University in Austria and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Kent State University.

I have more than twenty years of sales and marketing experience in the United States and Europe. Furthermore, I have five years of experience running a company in China and have worked for a Chinese company that is now listed on NADAQ.

I am also the executive director of the World Trade Center Jiaxing Association (85 members).

Last week a Shanghai business man mentioned to me that since I have interviewed more than 300 business owners in China in the past five years that is more than any other foreigner has done.

7. Interviewer: What year was your company founded? Is there any history worth talking about?

Interviewee: 2013.
In 2013 I entered a Chinese elite talent competition with a business plan which had the mission to promote Chinese business people in a professional way in Chinese and English.

Each foreign member in this business competition introduced their business plans to government officials in Nanjing, Ningbo and Jiaxing. I am an American and 15 other Americans and 10 Europeans entered this Chinese business talent competition however I was the only business person to setup a Chinese business.

I was offered to setup a business in all the three cities however chose Jiaxing because of the great leadership of the local Jiaxing government and the new official world trade center they were building in the city. I was the first company to set up an office in the new world trade center.

After I founded the Chinese company, I negotiated a strategic cooperation agreement with World Trade Centers in Atlanta, Tacoma and Orlando USA. Additionally, I negotiated a cooperation with the local area University to use business and English majors to do translations for our interview website platform.

9. Interviewer: What was the hardest part of starting a company in China?

Interviewee: The hardest part during the first years was putting together a team. We were fortunate to get our experienced CIO from Shanghai.

Our websites back end technology is a leading software that is used by large companies such as Amazon and Groupon (Ruby). This is a powerful software that gives us the possibility to grow from 300 interviews to thousands of interviews with no technical problems. Our websites backend was developed especially for our purposes by experienced coders in Shanghai China.

Our websites front end design layout is similar to some of Chinas largest and most popular websites. We have also updated the design so that it meets the requirements of both Chinese and western users.

Thereafter I built a sales team of experienced people and trained the data collection team using quality management checking procedures that I learned during my many years of work with German companies.

Interviewee: Many Chinese websites seem overloaded with information. It can be hard to find specific information. The western websites seem to be more clean and easier to read. One benefit of our website is that it is easy to read and we put each interview on a separate page.

12. Interviewer: What type of market research did you do in China before you began building the website?

Interviewee:Before we started, I did an in-depth analysis of Chinese websites and how they use the English language.

Between 9/2014 and 6/2015 our office reviewed 920 Jiaxing websites with English majors and graduated from Jiaxing University and Shanghai Normal University and found:

- Almost all websites had English grammar mistakes

- Each company had on average 12 misspelled words

- Company “mottos” were badly formulated that they made no sense in English

- Many English technical words were spelled wrong

-Old content (much content like articles were 3-5 years old)

* Sentences in English were to long – the English sentence structure was so bad that 250 websites were not understandable in English.

We realized that we cannot help every Chinese company and business person improve their website content so we focused on Interviews.

Most bosses told me in our market research that they need a quick and cost-effective way to explain their product or service in both Chinese and English. That is when the idea of business interviews was born. In the west interviews have much credibility.

13. Interviewer: Why are you engage in your current career?

Interviewee: I’ve always been passionate about designing and building online information services.

In Germany when I was working for the official stock and bond agency, I invented a data service for Germanys 3 largest banks. I built a team and platform that made short summaries of company annual general meetings in German and English. This information was so popular that it was even distributed over the “SWIFT” message system that connects all banks.

I realized the importance of structured data and used this concept for our business people interviews. Business people interviews are very popular in China, USA and Europe.

In China I wanted to create a service that lets business people build their brand with a self-written interview.

14. Interviewer: How did you come up with the idea of helping Chinese business people and companies build and promote their brand with an interview?

Interviewee: After doing very many in person interviews in my office, I decided that we can help more Chinese business people if we build an online tool to do a self-interview by answering our 11 standard interview questions. This service has become very popular and we now have over 300 interviews in the Chinese and English language on our website: www.laobanshuo.cn

An online interview is easy to do. There is no registration. Just answer our interview questions online and we will do the rest.
Our goal is to become the largest bilingual business interview platform in China

Thus, the basis business model for this new bilingual interview service came also from my experience building information services for Germanys three largest banks. By doing interviews that ask the same questions it is easy to compare business people.

Laobanshuo is a website platform (www.laobanshuo.cn) where we offer Chinese business persons a chance to explain their business and unique selling points of their products or services by filling out an online or E-mail Questionnaire Interview Form.

There are about 11 questions regarding their company and products. After we receive the completed interview answers we will have it translated into English then upload both the Chinese version and English version of the self interview it to our website: www.laobanshuo.cn

Interviewee: Yes. Also, some of our business persons interviews can now be found in Baidu when you just type their name in Chinese into search bar: www.baidu.com. We cannot guarantee this however this is a great extra Search Engine optimization (SEO) benefit for doing an interview.
