Host: before I start the interview, I would like to introduce the personal profile of the interviewees

Dong wensong, a farmer entrepreneur, is now the chairman and general manager of Zhejiang Quanwang Industrial Co., Ltd. He is a national outstanding township entrepreneur, outstanding factory director (Manager) of Zhejiang Province, model worker of Jiaxing City, deputy of Jiaxing Municipal People's Congress, member of Jiashan County CPPCC Dong wensong is worthy of his laurels and halos.

Dong wensong, who is more than 50 years old, was originally a native farmer. He only studied for three and a half years, which is equivalent to the culture of elementary school. In the early 1980s, when the tide of reform and opening up had just spread to the rural areas of Jiashan County where Dong wensong lived, he was not willing to be poor, let alone turn over the mud, so he went into business. During this period, he sold sugarcane, cement floor, opened restaurants, motorcycle parts stores, and operated feed stores. He had the joy of making money, but also had the depression of losing money. After more than ten years of ups and downs, he had a keen eye. He changed the traditional concept of farmers in the past, strengthened his confidence in entrepreneurship, and learned to engage in business activities according to the law of modern market economy.

In 1993, Dong wensong started his business with 2000 yuan. He rented the factory of Yuanxiang clothing factory to set up the Quanwang feed factory to produce pellet compound feed for pigs. At the beginning, he made a little fuss. After tasting the sweetness, he bought the workshop of the township mineral wool factory in 1998 and carried out the transformation. The first computer-controlled compound feed production line has been built. Since then, it has been unable to recover. Every year, it has invested in technical transformation. At present, there are ten production lines for livestock and poultry, shrimp, fish, turtle, expansion and high-grade suckling pig feed. Production enterprises with an annual output of more than 100000 tons of feed and sales revenue of more than 100 million yuan. According to the statistical ranking of feed Work Office of Zhejiang Province, since 2001, the output and sales revenue of Quanwang feed have ranked first in the same industry in Zhejiang Province, and the sales volume of aquatic feed ranks first in the province. It makes colleagues look at each other.

Moderator: Your company, Quanwang, has made feed as its main business and last year had an output value of over 300 million yuan. This year, the overall macroeconomic situation is not ideal for aquaculture enterprise, so will this effect your business?

Dongwen Song: The feed business has not been affected. On the one hand the development of the aquaculture industry in recent years in China and the hog prices have increased, and farmers enthusiasm being high. On the other hand, our brand has been in market for 16 years. Many farmers know our brand, “Quanwang”. Due to our brand and reputation, our value did not decrease this year, and will output more than 350 million yuan.

Moderator: When most people hear the word “ Quanwang", they will not immediately process that we are linked with the feed industry. When you established the company in 1993, why did you choose the name “ Quanwang”?

Dongwen Song: Indeed, most people don’t know the reason why the brand is registered as “Quanwang“. There are two main reasons: one is that we want to build a brand, to have excellent quality, develop the brand slogan, “Quanwang” which sounds like the best in Chinese. Second, I appreciate the boxing champion Mike Tyson, and I have learned a lot from him. Now we not only have “Quanwang”feed, as well as “Quanwang” farmland and “Quanwang”real estate.

Moderator: But when people hear the brand "Quanwang" they are more likely to link it with aggressive character rather than "excellent" and "stable". So what is your personality?

Dongwen Song: I learned some lessons that are beneficial "Quanwang" from Mike Tyson. I do not want to defeat competitors. Instead I do want to enhance my ability, learn Tyson's tactics and do this feed business well. As for aggression, I did not want to practice it. In my opinion, when you are working or doing business, to give a good impression, attitude is very important. Only by doing this can learn much more things.

Moderator: What kind of impression do you think makes a good impression?

Dongwen Song: Be friendly and instead of being high-flown. Everyone has merits that should be respected. Also, everyone has shortcomings that should be avoided. For me, I always show my great respect for seniors. From them I can learn a lot. I do business for making money, while I do farming as a hobby.

Moderator: In 1993 you invested 80,000 yuan to establish "Quanwang". You also owned the first production line. Now your annual output value exceeded 300 million yuan. What was your initiative in 1993, and what is it now?

Dongwen Song: Actually, I wanted to get rich and be a strong powerful man. With time going by, the size of the company got bigger and at the same time, indeed I changed my mind greatly. Responsibility is the top priority. First, the government policies give us great space to develop, and I should do something in return. And then I should shoulder the responsibility for my many employees and my family.

Moderator: Entrepreneur are lonely, aren't they? Something he really shares is his successful experience. We do not know his failure, torture and fear.

Dongwen Song: That's true. For me, I have two stages that were comparatively hard at the beginning. One is in 1993, when I started the feed business, I ate instant noodles for meals. Another is when I began my farm. I needed to supervise the program by myself. During that period, I ate sesame pie.

Moderator: Actually I fully understand why you were willing to eat instant noodles for the aim of becoming rich. But in 2002 you were a rich businessman and to be honest, you were a little old, why would you chose to eat sesame pie to venture to found "Quanwang" farm?

Dongwen Song: Doing farming is my hobby. Initially it was the government that proposed to me that there is a piece of land and asked if I was interested in doing farming. And then, I became more interested in it. Indeed, the prospect of the farming industry in China is not very good. I just took the farm as "Quanwang" garden and as the platform to communicate with my clients and friends. Another usage is the modern metropolitan farm center due to its chain effect with the nearby "fresh cut flowers" city. Also at the same time, it invigorated the market of agricultural products and created more jobs for the locals..

Moderator: For you in 1993 your aim was getting rich. But certainly it's not your goal of doing the farming business. What do you think is the benefit it gives you?

Dongwen Song: do business to make money, do farm heart feel comfortable. Tourists come to see the big cloud, happy, but also brought wealth to local people. I light this year to pay $ 1 million in taxes, but also let some farmers have to work again, also played a role in promoting local industry. Currently this farm we have invested 23 million yuan, the next second phase also increased accommodation, leisure services, I call it a three-agricultural production.

Moderator: Feed as the main industry, there are no plans for further development?

Dongwen Song: W e continually improved our technological innovation for feed. We invested 700 million yuan for the technological innovation , and we built a new factory in the other province. We also have 52 acres of land, built a deep processing for the aquatic food company. The fish farmers gather fish and shrimp and give to the export processing. The total construction area is 36,000 square meters, and the construction was finished in March 2010. After the completion of these projects in two or three years, the total value will be doubled.

Moderator: We believe that during the enterprise development period, the challenges we faced were not the same. The challenge of 1993 is how to survive. Then we considered how to make business better. When our value exceeded 1 billions dollars in mid-2001, we began thinking how to grow the businesses. During this process, what kinds of experience s can you share with future entrepreneurs ?

Dongwen Song: My experience is not that large. I think to do business, in the beginning one must suffer hardships, and the entrepreneur's attitude is very important. For example, the entrepreneurs should know how to control their emotions, and understand all aspects of balancing everything. Sometimes before I go to sleep, I consider how to control myself. Just like you are at the farm, you can see a lot of sentences like these: "After much thought," "do not tell lies before Buddha, and do not say bad things behind people," “it is very immoral to deceive people, and it is not worth to hate." ... ... These are my years of beliefs, but it is also my standard to pursue.

HONOR AND QUALIFICATION

Moderator: You have done the business for many years, yet still maintain the belief of being kind and trusting others. It is said that there are so many ups and downs in business, why do you have this kind of belief?

Dongwen Song: I have been in business for many years, and have only been deceived by two people, and less than 50 million yuan. I pursued a philosophy: if you want others to do something you expect, you should do first. For example, doing business. If you want to earn money, you should let others earn money, too. If you want people to trust you, first you should trust others. In particular, I remember that when drinking, just laugh, do not talk, do not make statements, do not make my casual talkings to influence my judgments.

Moderator: Feed industry is linked to two aspects, one is agriculture, including raw materials and aquaculture, and the other is people’s meals. And we are particularly concerned about food safety. Now many people are very worried about the safety of pork, so what about our feed?

Dongwen Song: Actually the company that pursues the further development will not take risks. So the company really becomes profitable, and their attitudes are more stable. If enterprises are at a loss, and unable to pay wages, it is inevitable for him to take risks . In addition, the entrepreneur's attitudes are also very important. If he wants to get rich at one night, he may get into trouble. These two years under the supervision of the government, the safety of food improved a lot. Before that some entrepreneurs used illegal drugs for profit. You know, there are still some businessmen take risks. In recent years, this kind of illegal phenomenon has disappeared due to strict supervision of the government and the farmers’ consciousness.
